WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING LASER HAIR REMOVAL

INVEST IN YOURSELF, BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT!

Permanent laser hair removal is the most effective method for permanently treating hair growth issues, whether for aesthetic or therapeutic purposes, such as treating ingrown hairs.

FOR WHICH TYPES OF HAIR IS LASER EFFECTIVE? Laser hair removal is more effective on light skin with dark hair. Hair without melanin (white, red, or blonde fuzz) cannot be removed with laser.

HOW MANY LASER HAIR REMOVAL SESSIONS ARE NEEDED? The number of sessions required depends on several factors, including skin type, hair nature, patient’s gender, age, and the area being treated. Hormonal imbalances should also be considered.

It’s essential to wait for a new generation of hair to appear before the next session. The interval varies depending on the treated area, skin type, and hair nature. On average, plan for a period of 6 to 8 weeks between each session.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL: Here are important points to know before starting a laser treatment:

  1. Avoid sun exposure during the treatment period, as the sun activates skin melanin, which is the target of the laser and can cause burns.
  2. Stop applying self-tanners for the same reasons.
  3. Do not wax (or use any technique that removes the hair bulb, like tweezing, depilatory cream, or sugaring) in the month before the session. However, shave the area to be treated 2 to 3 days before your appointment, unless it’s the face.
  4. Ensure that the hair is no longer than 1mm.
  5. Inform your laser assistant if you are taking any medications, as some medications can make the skin photosensitive and require specific laser settings.
  6. Avoid wearing new, unwashed clothing in the week before treatment, as they can leave pigments on the skin, which are a target for the laser.
  7. The skin must be dry and free of cosmetics. The application of numbing cream like Emla is not recommended. The patient’s sensation is important for determining the optimal laser energy and preventing burns.
  8. Tattooed skin is not a contraindication for laser hair removal. Special precautions will be taken, such as applying tape to the tattooed area, to avoid any burns.
