Demand from men has grown a great deal in recent years, and it is rarely the same as demand from women: men come less to remove everything than to solve a specific problem — a back they cannot shave alone, a neck that gets irritated every morning, a chest that itches two days after the razor.
Good news: male hair responds well
Men’s hair is generally thicker, denser and darker than women’s. Since the laser targets melanin, that is exactly the profile which responds best: the energy is well absorbed, the follicle is reached efficiently, and the difference often shows from the first sessions.
The flip side is that the sensation is a little more noticeable on dense areas. The integrated cooling on our Candela devices keeps it entirely bearable, and the sessions are short.
Area by area
The back — €150
This is request number one, for an obvious reason: nobody can shave their own back properly. You have to contort yourself, ask for help, or pay for waxing every month for thirty years.
The back is a large surface, but wide laser heads cover it in a single 30 to 45 minute session. Density varies from the shoulders to the lower back, and the settings follow. Count on 6 to 8 sessions.
The chest — €110
The second most frequent request. Shaving the chest grows back in two days, with itching and sometimes spots. The laser lastingly reduces density.
Many men do not want a completely bare chest. That is possible: by limiting the number of sessions, you get thinning rather than removal. Say so at the assessment — it is an instruction we follow without difficulty. The reverse, on the other hand, cannot be undone.
The beard outline — €45 per outline, €95 for the full beard
This is the most precise request, and the most interesting. Most men do not want to remove their beard, but to fix its outline: a clean neck and clean cheeks, without redrawing the line every morning.
The beard outline also settles ingrown hairs on the neck, very common with curly hair. One important point: the line is agreed with you before the first pulse, because the result is lasting. And like the rest of the face, the beard is hormone-dependent — plan for 8 to 10 sessions and then maintenance.
Shoulders, nape, stomach
Often treated in the same appointment as the back or chest. Shoulders are €78. The nape is of particular interest to men who wear their hair short and watch the hairline creep up.
What to know before starting
- Shave the day before, not on the day: the laser needs hair cut close but a root left intact.
- No wax, no tweezers for the whole protocol. The razor, however, is allowed between sessions.
- No sun 2 to 4 weeks beforehand. For a chest or a back, that means planning around holidays.
- White or grey hair does not respond. It no longer contains melanin, so the laser has no target. That is a real limit, and an argument for starting sooner rather than later.
How long it actually takes
A chest session lasts 20 to 30 minutes, a back 30 to 45 minutes, a beard outline 15 to 25 minutes. We space sessions 6 to 8 weeks apart on the body, slightly less on the face. Over a year that adds up to a handful of appointments — set against shaving every other day for the rest of your life.
We set out the logic of a protocol in our article on how many sessions are needed.
Come and talk it through
The first appointment is a free assessment: we look at the area, judge the density and colour of the hair, agree with you on the result you want — thinning or clearing — and give you the number of sessions and the price.
