Many people put off their first appointment simply because they do not know what will happen. Here is the actual run-through, from the moment you call us to the moment you leave the centre.
Before: booking
You book online or by phone. We ask which area interests you — that is all we need to set the right slot length.
One instruction to remember: shave the area the day before, and do not wax or tweeze in the preceding 4 weeks. If you are coming back from holiday with a tan, say so when booking: better to move the date than to do a session in poor conditions.
The assessment: the most important part
The first appointment is not a session, it is an assessment, and it is free. Allow about thirty minutes.
We start with a health questionnaire: current medication, healing history, recent sun exposure, hormonal context, current or planned pregnancy. This is not paperwork: those answers determine the device settings. The detail is in our article on contraindications.
Then we look at your skin and your hair. We determine your phototype on the Fitzpatrick scale, assess the density and colour of the hair on the area, and identify what will need working around — tattoos, moles. That decides the device: Alexandrite for light to intermediate skin, Nd:YAG for dark skin.
By the end of that conversation you leave with three precise pieces of information: the estimated number of sessions for your case, the price, and the pace of appointments. No vague range, no package to sign on the spot.
The test
If you wish, we fire a few test pulses on a small area. That serves two purposes: checking that your skin responds well to the chosen settings, and letting you find out what it feels like before committing. Thirty seconds is enough to settle most worries.
The session itself
If you decide to start, here is how a session goes.
- You settle in, alone in the room, and uncover only the area to be treated.
- We give you protective goggles — compulsory, for us too.
- The area is cleaned, sometimes marked with a pencil to define the outline, particularly on a bikini or a beard outline.
- We work section by section. The cooling blows cold at each pulse.
- We ask regularly how you are finding it. If it is too much, we adjust — that is the moment to say so.
The duration depends entirely on the area: a few minutes for underarms, 15 to 25 minutes for a bikini, 30 to 50 minutes for full legs.
On the way out
The skin is slightly red and warm, as after sun exposure. It fades within a few hours. We apply a soothing product and remind you of the 48-hour rules: no sauna, no swimming pool, no intense exercise that day, and sunscreen on exposed areas.
You leave with your next appointment — usually 6 to 8 weeks later, slightly less on the face. All the detail on aftercare is in our article on what happens after a session.
The weeks that follow
Between one and three weeks later you will see hairs that appear to grow back: these are treated hairs the skin is expelling. They fall out on their own. The real result is judged at six weeks, on the regrowth — slower, finer, sparser.
You can shave as much as you want during that period.
What we will not do
Three things, since these are what worry people: we will not quote a number before seeing your skin, we will not have you sign a package on assessment day, and we will tell you if the laser is not the right answer in your case — that happens, notably on hair that is too light.
The assessment is free and without commitment, in Uccle, Etterbeek and Watermael-Boitsfort. Book an appointment · See the prices
