Temporary Methods
2. Durable and Semi-Permanent Methods
At EpilSoft, we have chosen to equip all of our centers with the Candela Alexandrite and Candela Nd-YAG lasers. But what motivated this choice? And what are the other types of lasers and techniques available on the market for permanent laser hair removal? Let’s take an overview to better understand.
The Candela Alexandrite laser is widely recognized as one of the most effective and safe technologies for permanent hair removal. It emits a precise and powerful beam of light, specifically absorbed by the melanin present in the hair follicles. This allows for selective destruction of the follicles without damaging the surrounding skin.
The Nd-YAG laser is often preferred for darker skin tones, as its longer wavelength allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin while minimizing the risks of unwanted pigmentation or skin damage. It can also be effective for thicker and deeper hair.
Temporary Methods
The Razor
The razor may seem appealing at first glance: it’s inexpensive, painless, and easy to use. However, it can quickly become your skin’s enemy. The razor doesn’t target the hair roots; it simply cuts the hair. This leaves a rough sensation on the skin. Additionally, hair regrowth is extremely fast. Some users even notice regrowth as soon as the day after shaving. Using a razor on sensitive areas (like the armpits or bikini area) can lead to cuts that will take time to heal and remain prone to redness. We strongly advise against this hair removal method at EpilSoft.
Depilatory Cream
Waxing
The Electric Epilator
The electric epilator is a device used to remove unwanted hair at the root. It operates by grasping the hairs with small tweezers or rotating discs that pull them out. Using an electric epilator offers several advantages. Firstly, it provides longer-lasting hair removal compared to shaving. However, it’s important to note that epilating with an electric epilator can be uncomfortable or even painful, especially during the initial uses.
Threading
Threaded hair removal, also known as “threading,” is an ancient technique for removing unwanted hair. It primarily originates from South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. It involves using a twisted cotton thread to pluck the hairs from the skin’s surface. This method provides high precision and is suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. However, it can be uncomfortable and may lead to slight temporary skin irritation.
The Permanent Method
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a proven and favored method at EpilSoft. Even the most skeptical among our patients are delighted with the results achieved after a few sessions. This approach relies on the use of an intensely powerful light beam that is projected onto the area to be treated. The melanin in the hair absorbs this light, converting it into heat. Over the course of the sessions, the hair follicle weakens and eventually disappears completely, leaving smoother and clearer skin.
The Semi-Permanent Metho
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal differs significantly from laser hair removal. The flash lamps used in IPL deliver less selective, less powerful, and more random light compared to lasers. Additionally, the power of IPL light is lower, only allowing for the weakening of the hair follicle, resulting in temporary and transient rather than permanent results.
As a consequence, IPL hair removal results are often less effective, disappointing, and come with a significant risk of burns.
In contrast, lasers emit a more intense and selective beam of light, enabling the complete destruction of the hair follicle, providing you with truly permanent hair removal.
Unlike IPL, the use of lasers is exclusively reserved for qualified personnel who have undergone specific training. The required training for laser practice makes this procedure highly regulated, subject to numerous studies on effectiveness and safety. Indeed, lasers are the only technique that can guarantee you permanent, safe, and effective elimination of unwanted hair.
